creative team
The creative team of metalsmith John Boyd Smith and painter/photographer Rhonda Fleming are the artistic nucleus of the company. Mr. Smith has been Savannah’s internationally-acclaimed metalsmith for over 25 years. His wife, Rhonda Fleming, is an award-winning painter/photographer for more than 30 years. Together they form a design partnership. Rhonda creates conceptual drawings for client approval, and John interprets the concept in metal.
In over 25 years of professional metalsmithing, our company has never missed an established deadline for any architectural commission work. Our studio is known for its credibility.
design process
After an initial discussion with the client, a retainer is collected for our design services. Next, a meeting is arranged to discuss/describe the design and scope of work. Then, a concept drawing and/or metal samples are created for review by the client. After the concept drawing/samples are reviewed and approved by the client, a deposit is required to begin the shop work. A firm proposal stating price, terms of payment, and delivery is issued prior to the deposit.
style
We have completed projects in a number of architectural styles, including Early American/Traditional, Art Deco, Renaissance, Art Nouveau, Spanish Revival, Tuscan, Neo-Gothic, and “Organic,” to name a few. We describe our signature style as “organic realism.” We forge birds, animals, flowers, vines, leaves, trees, fish and other assorted flora and fauna indigenous to the mountains, forests and marshlands. The work is fully three-dimensional and very life-like in scale and appearance.
installation
Our company is capable of installing any work that we create. Over the years, we have installed our architectural metalwork from the Michigan/Canadian border to Miami, Florida. The client can request that we install our work, or have their general contractor install the work under our supervision on a per diem basis. In either case, we accept total responsibility for the installation.
